Intro

This activity is an ‘oldie but a goodie’ – and gets everyone’s creative juices flowing. The idea is to build a story by asking each person to add a line to it as you work your way around the group. One person can be your nominated ‘scribe’ while another is your ‘reader’, with the fun task of reading it out at the end. Make it as serious or silly as you like. The giggles are the best bit! 

What you need

  1. Pen and paper

The Activity

  1. Ask your first storyteller to kick things off by saying a sentence
  2. If they struggle, help out by starting the story with something like “I went out of my house the other day and…”
  3. Ask the next person to take this forward and add the next line
  4. Go around the group asking everyone for their lines until you have 15-20
  5. Then ask the reader to read the story out for everyone to hear
  6. Once the group have enjoyed their masterpiece, encourage a little light-hearted debate about whether it’s worthy of publishing
