Intro
Our brains are clever things, and one word often brings another to mind, and another – and another! You simply begin with a starter word and invite people to add associated words to the chain.
Words can go together like “American” and “Express” or have associations like “American” and “shopping mall”.
It’s a simple yet fun activity that really gets you thinking at pace. Enjoy in a big group, or 1-on-1 for a quick-fire game.

The Activity
- Kick off by suggesting a starter word
- Ask the first person to think of a word that connects to it
- Move to the next person and ask them to think of another word that connects to the last
- Keep going around the group in a chain
- If the chain goes on and on or the same words are being repeated, just break it and start a new one with a new starter word
- Keep the fun going until you’ve worked up the thirst for a cuppa!
