What you need

  1. A microphone and speakers
  2. A stage area (perhaps in the garden if the weather’s warm)
  3. Comfy seats for guests
  4. Ingredients to make a fruit punch and fruit skewers

Intro

Nothing lifts the spirits quite like a good old-fashioned talent show. And everyone can get in on the act – from residents to carers, staff, families and friends.

Simply ask if anyone has a hidden talent they’d like to showcase. Things like singing, juggling, joke-telling and magic tricks. Then, once you have enough willing performers, give yourself a month or two to plan the rest.

Top tip

Remember to make the event super inclusive by chatting to residents who don’t have guests with them – and of course anybody who feels too shy to perform.

The Activity

  1. Order your performers over a two-hour period but include a five-minute break between performances, so things don’t feel rushed.
  2. Then gather everyone together and check they all have a good view.
  3. Invite the first person up to perform, and enjoy the show!
  4. Play music in the breaks between performances to keep things relaxed – it might even encourage a sing-along!
