What you need

  1. Vases of different shapes and sizes
  2. Fresh flowers

Intro

Everyone can appreciate the beauty of a lovely bunch of flowers. Made even more special when given and received for Mothers Day. Thanks to the vibrant colours, soft petals and lovely floral scents; this simple activity will delight all the senses and bring a real sense of accomplishment once they’ve finished their bouquet.

Flowers can be arranged, sitting or standing, depending on what they’ll find most comfortable.  This can be done as a one to one or why not involve other friends and family and do as a small group.

Top tip

Those in the sensory and reflex stage may not be able to arrange the flowers, however may still enjoy being in a room with the aromas of fresh flowers being arranged close by them

The Activity

  1. Display all the vases on a table and invite Mum, Granny or Nanny to pick the one they’d like to use for their arrangement
  2. Lay out the flowers on the table
  3. Allow them time to look, feel and smell the flowers
  4. Encourage them to choose the flowers they’d like to use, stem by stem
  5. Show them how to cut the base of the stems and put them in the vase, any way they wish. Remember, it’s all about having fun and there is no “right” arrangement!
  6. Once they are happy with their creations, fill the vases with water and display them where everyone can enjoy them
