  2. Plain T-shirts various sizes (or cloth bags if you’d prefer)
  3. Fabric pens
  4. Pen and paper

Intro

The saying goes that you wear your heart on your sleeve, but when it comes to fashion, it’s more like ‘tees’. That’s because, over the years, the humble slogan T-shirt has grown into an icon, with lots of them becoming famous in their own right. From the ‘FRANKIE SAYS RELAX’ tees of the 80s to the ‘I love NYC’ designs that have made tourist tat cool. Slogan tees are here to stay. And the best thing is that they’re fun to make – and great for inspiring conversation too! 

The Activity

  1. Kick-start your session by sharing and discussing some existing slogan tees
  2. Encourage the group to explore the meaning behind them and share any thoughts
  3. Ask each person to spend time thinking of a slogan or two that represents who they are and what they feel
  4. Once they’ve thought of one, write it down and get them to share and discuss it with the group
  5. Once everyone’s decided upon their slogan, give them a T-shirt and ask them which colours they’d like to use for their slogan
  6. Write the slogan on the T-shirt (or ask your budding designer if they’d like to do it)
  7. If you’d like, give each tee a little pizazz by adding images around the words
  8. Once you’ve done that, your tees are ready to wear!
