  • Bring Joy
  • Stay Independent
  • Time Together

What you need

  1. Icing sugar
  2. Buttercream
  3. Vanilla essence
  4. Half a cup of milk
  5. Sprinkles
  6. Plain biscuits – rich tea or digestives will work best

Intro

This activity is quick, easy and fun, and results in delicious treats. What’s not to like? Just take any plain packet of biscuits and decorate them with icing or buttercream and sprinkles. It can be done one-on-one or as a small group, where each person takes part in the decoration.

Talk your food artists through each stage, helping and encouraging where necessary. Then, once finished, the iced biscuits can be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee as everyone reminisces about their baking days or simply relaxes and listens to some music

Top tip

If you’re using buttercream, spread it on one biscuit then press against another to make a sandwich

The Activity

  1. Gather a small group around a table
  2. Prepare the topping first and place the sprinkles in bowls with spoons
  3. To make the icing, sift 125g of icing sugar into a bowl, then gradually add warm water until the icing is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon
  4. To make the buttercream, place 140g butter, 280g icing sugar, 1-2tbsp milk, ¼ tsp vanilla essence in a bowl, then beat together until smooth
  5. Encourage each person to take a biscuit, spread or drizzle on the topping, then spoon on some sprinkles
  6. Make some tea and coffee to accompany the treats, then sit back and enjoy. Yum!
