Intro

There’s plenty of fun to be had on the lawn! These games encourage gentle exercise and sportsmanship, while brining everyone together for some chats and giggles.

The great thing about all of these games is that they can be done standing or sitting, depending on people’s abilities.  Great at a summer party in a care home or family gathering

The Activity

Skittles

  1. This game is best enjoyed in teams
  2. Place nine skittles at a distance, upright
  3. Each team member takes it in turns to knock down as many skittles as they can by rolling the ball towards them
  4. Put all nine skittles upright again after each person’s go
  5. The winning team is the one that knocks over the most skittles after a pre-determined number of games

Hoopla/Ring Toss

  1. Any amount of people can play this game
  2. Put pegs into the lawn, and give each one a different score
  3. Each person throws a ring, trying to land it onto one of the wooden pegs (especially the highest scoring ones)
  4. The winner is the person with the most points

Horseshoe

  1. Any amount of people can play this game
  2. It’s similar to Hoopla/Ring Toss, but instead of rings you use horseshoes
  3. Put a long wooden stake into the ground
  4. People take it in turns to throw their horseshoe so it encircles the stake
  5. Once everyone has had a go, the person with the horseshoe closest to the stake wins

Boules

  1. Buy plastic boules filled with water, rather than ones made of metal, as they’re easier to handle
  2. Divide everyone into two teams, and give each team a set of boules
  3. Throw the jack (small ball), and let everyone take it in turns to get their boule as close to it as possible
  4. People are allowed to knock the other team’s boules further away from the jack
  5. The boule closest to the jack wins
