Intro

This fun game can be played in two ways – as snap or pairs. It’s easy to set up; as you simply choose a selection of celebrities and match their first names with their surnames.

It gets people thinking quickly and engaging with one another, while igniting a little competitive spirit.  A great one to one, group and family game to play.

Top tip

At the end of the game, you can encourage everyone to talk about the celebrities. You could ask things like, “Why was she famous?”, “Do you like him?”, “Did you like her music?” etc.

The Activity

  1. Think of 20 celebrities or well-known figures in history
  2. Write their first names on 20 pieces of card and their surnames on the other 20 pieces of card

Game 1

  1. Shuffle the cards and deal them equally to the group
  2. Encourage each person to take it in turns to lay down one card at a time
  3. If they put down a card that matches the first name or surname e.g. “Winston” and “Churchill”, then anyone who spots it can shout, “Snap!”
  4. Whoever shouts, “Snap!” gets to keep the pair
  5. Carry on playing until there are no pairs left
  6. The winner is the person with the most pairs

Game 2

  1. Shuffle the cards and spread them out over the table
  2. Encourage each person to take it in turns to turn over two cards
  3. If the first name and surname match, they keep the pair
  4. Carry on playing until there are no pairs left
  5. The winner is the person with the most pairs
