What you need

  1. 2 sets of playing cards (1 x large-print or large and 1 x giant)
  2. A small prize (optional)

Intro

Everyone loves a game of bingo! Well, this one is a little different, as we use playing cards and the objective it to get rid of them all. It’s a whole lot of fun, as eyes hurriedly dart across the card looking for one that’s been called. A quick fun game for a group in a care home or at a family gathering.

Top tip

If you have less than 6 people in the game, use only 2 suits of cards; otherwise each person may struggle to hold them all. Or if you have 2 sets snap cards, you could play the game with Relish Animal Snap instead

The Activity

  1. Deal out the smaller set of cards to the group. You can either put them in front of each person or they can hold them in their hands
  2. Tell everyone “You’re going to call out one card at a time. If you have that card, you need to let me know and I will take it. The winner is the first person to get rid of all their cards”
  3. Shuffle the extra large set, then draw the first card
  4. Tell everyone what the card is a few times, and move around the room showing it to each person. This is to make sure that everyone can see and hear what it is, as they might need to compare it to their hand
  5. If someone has the card you’ve called, take it from them, reminding them that it’s a good thing
  6. The game can be played again, if time permits
  7. Give the prize to the winner, if you have one
