Intro

Ah, the great outdoors! Isn’t it wonderful? This activity takes us into the garden for some fresh air and a gentle stroll, so we can have fun spotting things.

You simply create a sheet with pictures of things in the garden, such as a blackbird singing a spring tune, a butterfly fluttering through the air or a daffodil nodding its head. Then either as a group or one on one, you can go out and find them. It’s not a race, though. Let people take their time and enjoy their surroundings, while you encourage them to look.

Afterwards, you can all sit in the garden and talk about what you’ve seen.

The Activity

  1. Take the person/group outside and give them the sheet with the images on
  2. Let them wander around the garden and give them support, if needed
  3. Encourage them to find each thing
  4. It doesn’t matter if you can’t find everything; it’s still great to breathe in nature!
  5. Once everyone has spotted all they can, spend some time sitting in the garden and encourage conversations about what they’ve seen
