What you need

  1. A variety of books that people will remember from their childhood, such as:
  2. Titles from the Ladybird range, such as Little Red Riding Hood or Cinderella
  3. Enid Blyton books, such as The Enchanted Wood or The Famous Five
  4. Novels, like Wuthering Heights, The Count of Monte Cristo, Moby Dick, Treasure Island, Anne of Green Gables or The Lord of the Flies

Intro

The magic of The Enchanted Wood. The anticipation of the wolf lying in Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother’s bed. The joyful moment when Cinderella finally puts on the glass slipper… so many wonderful moments in literature will stick with us for life.

This simple activity encourages everyone to step back in time and into the pages of the books they read while growing up. The covers alone have the power to transport people back to their childhood, allowing them to share what they liked about the books and how they made them feel.

The Activity

  1. Lay out the books on a table and encourage people, one by one, to look through and choose one they remember well
  2. Encourage them to look at the cover and enjoy the memories it evokes
  3. Invite the person/group to share their thoughts and memories of their book and why they liked or didn’t like it
  4. They or someone else may like to read an excerpt from the book to the group
  5. Continue until each person has chosen a book to share his or her memories
