Intro

June is Pride Month! It’s all about coming together in love and friendship to mark and celebrate how far LGBTQIA+ rights have come. It’s the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and make everyone feel included.

(If you didn’t know, Pride stands for promote, respect, inclusion, and dignity for everyone. And LGBTQIA+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and asexual)

So, let’s celebrate the diversity of our community during this vibrant month by decorating love hearts with the iconic Pride rainbow colours – invented by Gilbert Baker. This simple activity is a lovely one for a small group.

These colourful hearts will brighten up any room and you can have fun arranging them in any which way you want.

Top tip

Why not get everyone together and make a giant heart mural?!

The Activity

  1. Invite the group to sit at a table
  2. Put the heart templates, paper and pencils out
  3. Ask each person whether they would like a ready-made heart to decorate or if they want to draw their own
  4. Once everyone has a heart, see if they’d like to decorate it with the paper or the glitter glue
  5. Then start by glue or glittering a section of the heart – you can decorate in layers with one colour per line, in blocks of colour or randomly
  6. Let people decorate their heart however they wish, to keep in the spirit of Pride
  7. Once finished, allow your hearts to dry and display them anywhere you like to add a splash of colour
