Intro

Snow, mulled wine, Christmas – there are so many wonderful words we associate with winter. So why not use them to get the grey cells ticking, with this quick and simple cognitive word association game? It takes a little time to prep your words, but once that’s done, you’re off!

Top tip

We think it’s fun to score points for correct answers to keep everyone focused on the game – but it’s worth reassuring your players that it’s not all about winning!

The Activity

  1. Lay the first set of cards in a pile face down on the table
  2. Spread the second set of cards out on the table, with the words showing
  3. Your first player chooses a card from the pile in the first set and then sees if they can match it with one from the second set
  4. If they’re struggling, ask the group to offer some help
  5. Once they’ve matched a pair, the next person takes their go
  6. Once all the links are made, the group can share their memories of winter and what they like or dislike about the season
