What you need

  1. 1 bar of chocolate (white, milk or dark)

  4. 1 saucepan filled with hot (not boiling) water
  5. Wooden spoon
  6. Fork

Intro

Juicy strawberries are a classic ingredient of British summertime. And they’re a dream match for chocolate!

We’re going to make a simple, yet delicious treat of strawberries dipped in melted chocolate for warm sunny afternoons in the garden – or anytime. Eat before the chocolate melts, but be careful not to eat them all before you’ve finished making them.

You can either melt the chocolate using hot water or do it in the microwave beforehand if you feel it’s safer for everyone.

Top tip

Why not melt a bar of white and a bar of milk chocolate into separate bowls? Then you can double dip, and each strawberry can have two different layers of chocolate. Yum!

The Activity

  1. Scoop out the green stalks of the strawberries using teaspoon and put them on a plate
  2. If you’re melting the chocolate with the person or group, follow these 3 steps:
    - Break up the chocolate into pieces
    - Put them into the bowl (the smaller they are the quicker they’ll melt)
    - Place the bowl over the saucepan of hot water and stir the chocolate until it has melted
  3. If you’re melting the chocolate in a microwave, you can skip the 3 steps above
  4. Pick up the strawberries one by one and dip them into the melted chocolate, so half of each one is coated
  5. Put them onto a board or plate
  6. Wait for them to set (if you can!) and tuck in
