What you need

  1. Christmas music
  2. Small gifts – all wrapped up in a variety of sized boxes and shapes to disguise what’s inside (we’d include things like some soap, a chocolate bar or pack of tissues)
  3. One large candy cane or baton to pass around

Intro

This fun-filled party game never fails to bring about a smile (just imagine ‘pass the parcel’ but with slightly more cunning). And it’s perfect to play in a care home, or with friends and family at home.

The Activity

  1. Gather the group in a circle
  2. Place a wrapped gift beside each person, so they know it’s theirs (for the time being!)
  3. Hand the nearest person a candy cane or baton and start playing the music
  4. Encourage everyone to pass the candy around the circle until the music stops
  5. Stop the music randomly and allow the person with the candy a chance to swap their present with somebody else’s (if they’d like to)
  6. Once they’ve swapped, the music and the game starts again
  7. Keep going for as long as the group’s having fun!
  8. The great news is that everybody keeps his or her prize at the end of the game (try not to look disappointed if you end up with the soap!)
  9. Fancy mixing things up a little? Why not set rules before the game starts about the kind of person the baton-holder should swap pressies with once the music stops? (Eg. it might be someone wearing glasses or with curly hair).
