What you need

  1. A selection of autumn leaves (choose a variety of shapes, textures and colours)
  2. A book about trees (or look on the Woodland Trust website)

Intro

The great outdoors looks wonderful when the seasons are changing. All the red, yellow, gold and russet leaves are a real feast for the eyes! This activity is great, as it gets us out and about and exercising, and also exposes our bodies to sunlight, which is really important for lifting our moods when the days are shorter.

The Activity

  1. Wrap up warm and venture to a local park or out into the garden, taking a gentle stroll among the fallen leaves.
  2. At each tree, encourage everyone to pick up a selection of leaves, taking the time to discuss the colour, shape and tree they have fallen from.
  3. When back in the warmth, gather all the leaves together and play this memory game.
  4. Hold up one of the leaves and see if people can remember what tree it was from or perhaps who found it, if you went out as a group.
  5. Use your book about trees to bring the game to life, as the pictures of the trees may help jog people’s memories.
