Intro
There's nothing quite like a homemade mince pie, served warm from the oven with a glass of mulled wine, to get you into the festive spirit. This easy-peasy recipe takes no time at all, and will hopefully trigger many happy memories of baking at home.
If it’s not December, try a different recipe as the joy of baking can take people back many years.
What you need
For 6 portions
- Ready-made pastry (or make your own to enjoy the sensation of the dough in the hands)
- Jar of mincemeat
- Flour
- Egg wash (an egg, beaten)
- Round pastry cutter
- Star pastry cutter
- Greased baking tray
- Dessertspoon
The Activity
- Work together to roll out the pastry on a floured surface, roughly 3mm thick
- Use a pastry cutter to cut out round shapes for the mince pie base
- Put the pastry discs onto the greased baking tray and scoop in a dessertspoon of mincemeat
- Cut out star shapes and place them on top of the mincemeat.
- Glaze with a little egg wash
- Bake these in the oven for 15-20 minutes on 220C/200C fan/gas 7
- Once the cooked mince pies are cool enough to eat, enjoy together with a glass of mulled wine or a cup of tea and reminisce about past baking days and Christmas
