Intro
From Buckingham Palace to the Angel of the North, our green and pleasant land has so many famous landmarks! This activity is all about using them to encourage conversation and jog the memory. We’d say this falls somewhere between a quiz and a discussion. And you needn’t stick to the big-hitting landmarks either. By exploring some of the more obscure places, you’re giving everyone a chance to share their knowledge and learn new things. A group activity, but can be done one on one as well
What you need
- 20-30 pictures of famous landmarks in the UK - download resource
The Activity
- Show the person/group one picture at a time and ask them to guess what it is, or what they think it is if it’s unusual
- Encourage everyone to discuss their thoughts and feelings about the landmark, especially when it comes to more obscure places like the “Fairy Pools” in the Isle of Skye
- Ask them if they’ve ever visited these landmarks and what their memories are of any trips there

Top tip
If you have any time spare, why not ask each person what landmark they might design if they could, and where in the UK it would be?
