Intro

It’s easy to lose touch with younger generations if you’re not in contact with them. So let’s chat about some of the latest trends and buzzwords, like baguette bags and doom scrolling, for both education and entertainment.

This activity will take a look at millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996), Gen Zs (people born between 1996 and 2010) and Gen As (people born between 2010-2024). Let’s see how many of these trends seem bizarre? And how many have gone full circle and are just like ones we did when we were younger?

This activity is an ideal conversation starter before another activity – or as a discussion on its own. We recommend enjoying it in a small group or 1-on-1.

The Activity

  • Invite the person or group to sit at a table or comfortable chair (in a quiet space if possible)
  • Introduce the activity and say how you will be looking at some modern trends and sayings
  • You can use the resource provided (or any others that you are aware of)
  • Introduce the first term/word and ask the group what they think it might mean
  • Once discussed for a few minutes, read out the description
  • Allow the group to share their thoughts!
  • Encourage the group to talk about anything similar that they had when they were younger
  • Continue to the next term/word and discuss again
  • Keep going for as long as everyone is happy – or when you have gone through all the words/terms
