Intro

Work up an appetite as you work your way through the alphabet naming as many foods as you can for each letter. From apples, almonds, artichokes and anchovies to yoghurt and zucchini! It’s a tongue-tantalising way to get the cogs turning.

This simple game slots in brilliantly before lunch or over a cup of coffee. You can spend 5 minutes going through just 1 letter or, if you have a little more time, you can go through the whole alphabet.  You’ll probably be hungry afterwards, so have snacks or lunch at the ready.

The Activity

  1. Invite the person or ask the group to sit around a table or, if everyone is already sitting comfortably, do the activity where they are
  2. Explain that the game is to take each letter of the alphabet in turn and list as many foods as possible beginning with that letter
  3. Start off with A
  4. If in a group, you can ask each person in turn or throw it open to the group (some may be more comfortable with this approach)
  5. Once answers are given, list them on the whiteboard/paper
  6. Once exhausted all the foods beginning with A, move on to letter B
  7. Continue for as long as the person or group are enjoying the activity
  8. If the game stops mid alphabet, why not pick it up again another day?
