About the activity & how to play it

This game is based upon the long-running TV show, Name That Tune, that ran from 1976 to 1988. The fact that it might be familiar to some people will heighten the pleasure.

You simply play the beginning of songs and get people to guess their names. The aim isn’t to sit and enjoy the music (although you naturally will!); it’s about staying alert and getting your cogs ticking over.

The game doesn’t have to be competitive, but you can score points too, if you wish.

You’ll need

  1. Music player
  2. Music playlist or CDs

The Activity

  1. Play the musical introduction of the first song first
  2. Invite the person/group to try and guess what the song is from this only
  3. Some may know the song but can’t recall the name. If they can sing along, though, that counts as a correct answer!
  4. Once they’ve guessed a song, play a few more bars so everyone can sing along
  5. Move onto the next song and repeat
  6. Continue of for as long as the person/group is enjoying themselves
  7. You’ll find that the game will also be a sing-a-long session and people might not guess many songs – but that’s okay
