What you need

  1. Coat of arms printed on card (tap ‘Email Resources’ to get a template)
  2. Pens
  3. Felts

Intro

Some families own a coat of arms, complete with heraldic symbols and icons – but many don’t. If your family hasn’t got one, it doesn’t matter. You can make one for yourself! Use whatever symbols or pictures you like that represent you best. Love sausages, cats and hats? Draw them in instead of swords, lions and crowns. Be as creative as you like!

The Activity

  1. Give each person a coat of arms template (or let them design their own)
  2. Give them time to think about the things they would like on their coat of arms to best represent their family
  3. Support each person as they draw
  4. Give ideas and prompts if needed
  5. Once everyone has finished, encourage them to share their coat of arms with their group or friends and family,  and explain what each of the things represents
